Event this Tuesday! Color Play with Sue Kessler

Next Tuesday, April 12 6-8:30 we have an awesome workshop planned hosted by the Franklin Mill Store and led by Sue Kassler.

Come for and evening of Color Play! A brief and non-intimidating discussion of “color 101” will begin the evening. Bring a favorite piece of fabric you all ready own or choose one at the store. Or, if you have a pattern you’ve been wanting to make but have no idea what fabric to choose, bring that! IMG_6032 (2)As we play with coordinating fabric possibilities for each fabric or pattern, you will learn to ask yourself the questions that will help define your final selections. Color is personal – you all ready know what you like – come to this workshop to gain confidence in your color choices!

You are more than welcome to bring a guest to this event BUT you need to RSVP by THIS FRIDAY, April 8th. Please respond to this email if you are planning to attend, we want to make sure there are enough handouts and other goodies! Also – Mary from Franklin Mill Store has generously extended a 20% discount on all full priced quilting cottons purchased that evening.

Hope to see you there!

ALSO: Please remember that there is NO social this Friday.

Heads Up! Road Work Ahead!

We just received word of road work in the area. Franklin Mill Store will still be open on Saturday, and our meeting will take place as scheduled. During the meeting, we will be hold self nominations for all Officer positions.

Here is the message from Franklin Mill Store with parking alternatives. Hope to see everyone Saturday at 10 am!

Despite what the detour signs will say because of railroad repair work this Saturday,
we will be open.  Access to the Mill will be open from the south end of the Union Street.
If you have difficulties getting into our parking lot, parking is available in the lot
on the corner of Union and Cottage streets (across the street next to Agway).

August Meeting – Sketch Stitch Applique Demo

Our August meeting is taking place this Saturday! We have a special guest: Laura Collins. She’s going to teach us all how to sketch stitch applique – a very easy, modern approach to machine applique.

This meeting will be in the classroom (downstairs in a separate building for newbies), so you won’t have to lug your sewing machines up the stairs. Bonus: It’s air conditioned!

Here’s the list of things you should bring:

  • Your sewing machine, set up with dark thread, and your regular piecing foot
  • Fabric scissors (pinking shears are very helpful if you have them)
  • Craft/paper scissors. You’ll be cutting paper templates, so you don’t want to dull your good fabric scissors.
  • Background fabric and fabric scraps. Having options is nice, but you don’t need to bring a lot. You can still practice the technique with even a few scraps.

The guild will provide the following, but it would be helpful to bring your own (no waiting for resources!)

  • Tear-away stabilizer, such as Sulky Tear Easy
  • A glue stick
  • Freezer paper
  • Craft paintbrushes (like the kind you get in the kids section, usually $1 for 3-5 of them)
  • Starch.

Looking forward to seeing lots of smiling faces on Saturday!
