August Recap

August’s meeting was another great one!! I forgot to take a count, but we had a lot of people show up and new people too!!!

We discussed a few ideas for officializing the guild with the National MQG. I’ve now added a tab up top here to provide some more information about the national guild, but if you have any questions at all, feel free to ask! There was a little concern that our bylaws would “bog us down.” That won’t be the case – I promise! No weird restrictions like you must attend 66.456% of meetings to be an active member. No requirements like you have to make three charity quilts and do two demos a year. The by-laws will really just be there to state basics like our name and meeting times, and to give us a recourse if someone really mean and nasty comes along. And remember – I’m looking for creative names for officers that reflect our runamok spirit. So far we have some great suggestions: Wampum counter, Head Runner, timekeeper, Chancellor of Cookies…. we’ll eventually have a vote on what to go with, so keep the suggestions coming!

We also had a great paper piecing demo (well, I thought it was great, but I’m biased). So keep working on your Economy Blocks! We will be having a swap/exchange of economy blocks at the October meeting. Bring as many blocks as you want, and you’ll bring an equal number of different ones home. If you need a little help with your blocks, let me know. We can work out a tutoring session. Or come to the Social on Friday, Sep 19!!!!

Lynne's Hexagons -- Which she will be teaching us in September!!!

Lynne’s Hexagons — Which she will be teaching us in September!!!

Lynne will be leading a demo at the September meeting (Sept 27, 10am) of her circles into hexagon method. Please bring precut circles (she suggests 5″ or bigger), a needle, matching thread, and scissors. That’s it, light and easy.

Also, we now have a Facebook page! So if you’re active there, you can keep up to date and see some news. If you have any suggestions for the Facebook page (or want to take over for me?), let me know.

Now for the Show & Tell!!!

And some scenes from the paper piecing tutorial. I think it went well, and there were lots of cute blocks. But I was too busy eating Carol’s delicious cookies and talking to capture most of it…. tsk tsk.

There is always lots of talking at a guild meeting.
